Warm-Ups for Beach Volleyball

We’re right in the middle of summer, and with the 2016 Summer Games being held in Rio, you may be inspired to get active by some of your favorite events. Beach volleyball is a big event at the games and is popular on Long Island during the summer. The first time beach volleyball was introduced as an Olympic event was in 1996 in Atlanta and has only soared in popularity since. Beach volleyball is a fun way to get outside on the beach. Beach volleyball works out various muscles groups, more than regular volleyball, because it is played on the sand. The uneven surface of the sand activates your core muscles as well as some lower body muscle groups more so than playing the game on solid, even ground.

Aside from the usual stretching and warmup run, it is important to get your body ready to play beach volleyball. One warm up that is recommended is a game that is similar to pepper, except it is played over the net. Player A has to run up an set or pass the ball to themselves and then they have to hit the ball over the net to their partner. This warm up allows for there to be a more game-like environment and it also is a good cardio workout that gets the players’ heart rates going.
